What? - European Exposure 2012 Photo Retreat
Where? - Austria, Hungary and Barcelona
When? - July 17th - 27th, 2012

  • European Exposure 2012 is a ten-day retreat in Austria, Hungary and Spain for journalism and photography teachers, their spouses, and anyone else who'd like to learn how to be a better photographer or videographer. Participants will depart from the United States on July 17, 2012 and return on July 27, 2012. Workshop participants are not required to be a teacher or education professional.
  • The trip will require a considerable amount of walking and climbing stairs. If you’re planning to attend, please make note of this if the physical activity could be an issue for you. **We can't stress this enough, and want you to be aware of the walking requirement before you sign up to attend.**
  • All attendees will need a valid US Passport. For more passport information click the "Passport" link to the right.
  • Attendees will be required to share rooms with at least one other attendee. We'll do our best to match attendees with roommates we feel they'll be compatible with. There are a limited number of single rooms, which are assigned on a first-paid-first-served basis.
  • Couples will be assigned their own private rooms.
  • We welcome spouses/friends/relatives to the retreat. They will be assessed the same fees as outlined for advisers/instructors. Children 14 and over are also welcome, but please be advised that no special activities will be planned for them, and they will need to be under your supervision at all times. Children will be assessed the same fees as other attendees.
  • Breakfast will be provided daily. Dinner will be provided on some days, but all other meals are your responsibility to purchase. Meals provided by the retreat are home-cooked, and the local cuisine is not low-fat. Special dietary concerns will be difficult to address.
  • You’ll travel with the group in nine-passenger vans. Drivers will be provided, but individual travel requests will be difficult to accommodate due to the group nature of the workshop.
  • Participants will be given ample free time in Vienna, Barcelona and other stops for sightseeing, shopping, etc. Attendees will use public transportation (streetcars, buses, subways and gondolas/water taxis) to move around Vienna and Barcelona, and will be responsible for the costs incurred while using public transportation.
  • **Again (and we know we're harping on this, but it's very important,) this trip will require a large amount of walking, and streets/sidewalks in Europe aren't always flat or even-surfaced. Please take this into consideration when deciding if you should sign up for the workshop.**
  • Most days, participants will be given suggestions as to what sights we recommend they see, but we will not provide guided stop-by-stop tours, which means participants will be on their own to explore. This requires a certain level of comfort with exploring a foreign town without guidance. If you plan to attend European Exposure, please make note of and consider this issue if you feel it might hinder your ability to enjoy the trip.
  • On days the group spends in the countryside, time will be more structured unless otherwise noted.
  • Medical facilities in Europe are extremely modern, and will always be a short distance away from our location. Prescriptions are more difficult to obtain, however, so be sure to bring an adequate supply of any medications you may need.
  • Smoking inside hotels or group vehicles is strictly prohibited.
  • Did we mention
    THERE WILL BE
    A LARGE AMOUNT
    OF WALKING?

    Good. Just checking.
